Aberdeen
Located in North-east Scotland, Aberdeen is home to a population of 216,520 and
is the third largest city in Scotland after Glasgow and Edinburgh. Known as 'the
Granite City' due to its many old buildings that were built using locally quarried
granite, Aberdeen has a superb blend of the traditional and modern. From industries
such as farming and fishing to the booming oil industry and manufacturing – Aberdeen
is the largest manufacturing centre in the north.
Aberdeen is a thriving cosmopolitan city with spectacular architecture, captivating
museums, fascinating history, a wealth of art and culture and a lively social scene.
In Aberdeen you are never far from something exciting to see or do. The famous 'Granite
Mile', Union Street, is the gateway to over 800 shops, restaurants and bars. For
the shop-aholic the city centre has several busy shopping malls featuring designer
boutiques, high street chains, charity shops and antique shops, meaning you are
spoilt for choice and the perfect place for shopping in Scotland.
The city centre also features the fascinating Art Gallery with its fine collection
of landscapes, portraits, modernists and impressionists featuring works by Monet,
Pissarro and Renoir and free admission, whilst the award-winning Maritime Museum
brings the history of the North Sea to life through multi-media displays and exhibitions.
Culturally, Aberdeen really does cater for all tastes. The popular Lemon Tree venue,
with its café-bar atmosphere, attracts an exciting mixture of contemporary theatre,
dance, stand-up comedy and music.
The cosmopolitan West End is where much of Aberdeen's nightlife can be found and
