Scotland Events in August 2009
- 22nd August 2009: Lonach Highland Gathering & Games - Bellabeg Park,
Strathdon
Witness the 'one of a kind' march of the Lonach Highlanders and watch the traditional
Highland Games.
- 22nd & 23rd August 2009: Lighthouses in the Air - Walker Park, Aberdeen
- 23rd August 2009: North of Scotland Champions of Champions Pipe Band Contest
- Aden Country Park, Mintlaw
Pipe band contest featuring Grades one to four, Drum Majors and Highland dancing.
- 24th August 2009: Aberdeen Pony Show - Duthie Park, Aberdeen
Now one of the most prestigious and best supported Highland Pony Shows in Scotland,
the Aberdeen Pony Show attracts Highland Ponies come from all over Scotland. Classes
include In-Hand, Ridden, Dressage, Young Handlers, Working Harness and Fancy Dress.
- 28th August 2009: Fyvie Homecoming Festival - Fyvie Castle
Opening Folk Concert Scottish evening with Burns Supper.
- 30th August 2009: Fyvie Homecoming Festival - "Songs of Praise" - Fyvie Castle
Community Garden Party with pipe band, silver band, dancers, stalls and races.

- 3rd - 13th September 2009: Aberdeen International Jazz Festival
Aberdeen Jazz Festival brings together local, national and international jazz musicians.
- 4th - 6th September 2009: B.I.R.D. Scottish Homecoming Bash 2009 - Vale Hotel,

- 7th - 11th September 2009: Offshore Europe 2009 - Aberdeen Exhibition &
Conference Centre
Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition.
- 12th September 2009: Aberdeen's Doors Open Day
- 11th - 21st: Techfest

Scotland Events in October 2009
- 3rd - 11th October 2009: Peterhead Fish Festival
- Peterhead Fish Market
Started in 2006 to celebrate the fishing industry of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire in
Scotland.
- 16th, 17th and 18th October 2009: Ayr Jazz Festival
- Various Locations
Now in its 7th year the Ayr Jazz Festival showcases New Orleans, Dixieland, Ragtime,
Swing, Hot Club, traditional, jazz and blues bands and music from the 20's and 30's
from top UK musicians.
- 16th October 2009 - 1st November 2009: The Enchanted Forest:
Scottish Myths and Legends - Faskally Wood by Pitlochry
A magical autumn experience for all ages consists of a sound and light show in Faskally
Wood.
- 17th October 2009: Jedburgh Castle Jail Ghost Event
- Jedburgh Castle Jail
There have been many reported paranormal occurences at Jedburgh Castle Jail such
as apparitions, many reports of a ghostly piper seen standing on the battlements,
strong presences and strange lights have been witnessed. Come and see for yourself
at the edburgh Castle Jail Ghost Event.
- 22nd - 25th October 2009: Trossachs International Mushroom
Festival
A festival of food, music, fantasy and fun all based on the humble mushroom. Featuring
cookery demonstrations, traditional Scottish music and dance, walks and golf.
- 23rd October - 1st November 2009: International Storytelling
Festival - Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh
Inspiring live storytelling performance featuring music, song, film, workshops,
talks and international guests.
- 25th October 2009 - 11th November 2009: Doric Festival
A unique festival that celebrates Aberdeenshire's local heritage and involves local
communities across the North-east to help celebrate the language, music and traditions.
- 30th October 2009 - 22nd November 2009: SOUND Festival
An exciting festival of new music across a number of venues in Scotland with the
aim of encouraging the audience to explore sound in new ways. From classical, contemporary,
improvisation, traditional and popular music to jazz, experimental, ambient, sound
art and electro-acoustic, there is a variety of genres as well as concerts, talks,
installations, and workshops.
Scotland Events in November 2009
- 5th November 2009: Aberdeen's Winter Festival Fireworks Night
- Aberdeen Beach
The annual City of Aberdeen Fireworks Display features a 20 minute colourful, noisy,
high ariel fireworks, complete with a musical accompaniment and walkabout entertainment.
Evening entertainment starts at 7pm with the fireworks at 7:30pm.
- 6th - 28th November 2009: Royal Scottish National Orchestra
- Glasgow and Edinburgh
The RSNO perform with Scotland's classical superstar Nicola Benedetti. There is
a St Andrew's celebration with Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham to end the year of festivities.
- 19th - 21st November 2009: RACMSA Rally of Scotland: The final
stage of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge
New for 2009, Scotland welcomes the inaugural Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports
Association Rally of Scotland, as the final round of the prestigious Intercontinental
Rally Challenge (IRC).
- 26th - 28th November 2009: The House Folk Music Festival
- 26th Kinlochard village Hall, 27th Blairhullichan House, 28th MacGregor's Barn
Three nights of Scottish traditional music at the House Folk Music festival with
top artists performing bagpipe, strings and flute music fusing traditional and contemporary
Scottish styles that have influenced the folk scene around the globe.
- 27th - 30th November 2009: Homecoming Scotland's Finale Weekend
Celebrations
A fantastic programme of events will stretch across the weekend – and the country
– providing plenty of opportunities to join Homecoming Scotland's Finale Celebrations
and celebrate St Andrew's Day.
Scotland Events in December 2009
- 3rd - 12th December 2009: European Curling Championships
- Curl Aberdeen Rink
Over 30 European nations will come together to fight for the men's and women's titles
in what is the last major international curling event before the Vancouver Winter
Olympics in 2010.
- 31st December 2009: Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony
- Stonehaven
A unique and colourful night time festival where participants parade up and down
the High Street in the Old Town of Stonehaven, swinging home-made 'fireballs' above
their heads. The fireballs are thrown into the sea at the end of the parade and
there are fireworks, a pipe band and other entertainment.
- 31st December 2009: Aberdeen's Winter Festival Hogmanay Street
