Shopping in Glasgow
Glasgow is considered to have the best shopping facilities in Scotland - it is regarded
as offering the best UK shopping centre and largest outside of London. Ranging from
the many major UK high street stores, smaller boutiques, department stores and a
wide variety of specialty shops, including craft and antique shops, you will find
every type of shop selling every type of item in Glasgow.
A shop to suit every taste and interest, it is no wonder that residents and visitors
from around the UK and overseas come to the city to shop and experience the expanding
shopping facilities. Whether you want a Scottish Kilt, bagpipes, leather goods,
sheepskin clothing, tins or shortbread or even whisky, all of these products and
more can be found in and around Scotland and the Highlands and make great souvenirs.
Glasgow city centre has three main pedestrianised shopping areas: Sauchiehall Street,
including pre-Christmas stalls, stands and an outdoor market, and Argyle Street,
running parallel to each other and joined by Buchanan Street which runs from north
to south. Then there are the indoor shopping malls such as the Sauchiehall Street
Centre, the Buchanan Galleries, the stylish and hip Princes Square, the St Enoch
Centre, and the bright and sunny atriums of the Argyle Arcade.
The popular weekend Barras market is located in the city's east end and offers all
kinds of bargains that you would expect at a market. Heading towards the city’s
West End, you will also find smaller boutiques and specialised shops, including
De Courcy's Antique Craft Arcade for an interesting array of antique and craft shops,
designer homeware boutiques, clothing shops and vintage record stores.
