We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hampshire and what a splendid hotel you have. Your staff were very good and attentive in all departments and the meals were delicious. We will definitely be back next year and will try to avoid the inter island games which start around the end of June in 2015.

General Information

We are a friendly, family-run hotel situated in one of the most picturesque villages in Fife. Aberdour is on the north shore of the Firth of Forth River in Central Scotland. Scott & Iona Wilkinson are the new owners and took over in July 2007.

Although our buildings date back to the 17th century, all our newly refurbished sixteen bedrooms have en-suite facilities, tea/coffee makers, hair-dryers, television and direct-dial telephones. In the days before railways and the motor car the Aberdour Hotel was a staging-post for stage coaches and so has a courtyard and stable block. The courtyard is now our car park and the stable block has been converted into five bedrooms, two at ground level affording wheelchair access from the car park. We specialise in traditional cooking using fresh local produce whenever possible and have a daily "Chef's Specials Board" to compliment our popular menu.

Breakfast and evening meals are served in the Mortimer's Deep Restaurant within the hotel. Our restaurant is named after the deep channel that lies between the village of Aberdour and the island of Inchcolm. Mortimer was Sir Allen De Mortimer who acquired through marriage the castle, the lands and the Barony of Aberdour in 1126 AD. Sir Allen's wish was to be buried in the church on Inchcolm Island but this was not to be. The monks who were carrying his coffin of lead threw him overboard and the stretch of water has been known as Mortimers Deep ever since.

Our well-stocked bar has a coal fire in the winter and always a warm welcome from our friendly staff and the "locals." We are proud to announce that once again we are featured in the latest CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Good Beer Guide. Being close to the home of golf - St. Andrews is only 35 miles away - golf courses are plentiful. There are 100 courses within about an hours drive of the village and the area has all types of courses to suit all standards of golfers.

The Aberdour Hotel is also on the Fife Coastal path; ramblers and cyclists are welcome. Fife is a wonderful area to visit, with many old harbour villages along the north shore of the Firth of Forth. Aberdour is one such village, with several old structures: St. Fillan's Church in existence in 1123 and still used today; Aberdour Castle built around 1200 by the Mortimer family and now in the care of Historic Scotland; the Old Stone Pier built in the 1700's and the Victorian Railway Station built in the late nineteenth century to cater for rail traffic using the famous Forth Rail Bridge.

Just off-shore is Inchcolm Island, site of the best preserved monastic buildings in Scotland and aptly likened to the isle of Iona. Within easy reach are the fishing villages of the 'East Neuk' of Fife, the wonderful Falkland Palace and, of course, the many attractions of our capital city - Edinburgh - which is easily reached from the hotel being only 30 minutes away by rail/car.

My husband and me stayed one night with our Black Lab on the way back from dropping our son off at St Andrews for freshers week. We stayed in a twin room at the back of the hotel which was clean and quiet, being September the beer garden was not being used. We ate in the bar, food fabulous and well priced and Rose nice and chilled. Staff make the hotel as they are extremely friendly and nothing too much trouble. We asked if we could take breakfast in the bar normally served in restaurant as we don't like leaving the dog in the room and as there is no car park didn't have the option of leaving him in the car. The young lady on in the morning laid us a table and served the very nice breakfast there. No doubt we will be staying again during the next 3 years. Get walk down to the beach to walk off dinner and breakfast before we left. Very handy for the Forth road bridge.

Arrived early on Saturday earlier than expected and shown to room by very friendly man on reception. Parking a real bind as the small car park has been converted to a beer garden but there is parking not too far away. We were in one of the larger rooms which was a really good size with a very comfortable huge bed!! Breakfast was OK, service could be a bit more on the ball as there were a few tables still to be cleared or with crumbs on (including ours...). The hotel is a couple of minutes walk to the station so if you want to be handy for Edinburgh but out of the hustle and bustle Aberdour is perfect (1/2 hour on train). Unexpected local music festival outside our room on the last night and a really good night. The service overall is friendly and chatty and the bar is a nice place to unwind in at the end of the day.

I was at a golf outing at Aberdour and decided to stay over in the Aberdour Hotel. I arrived in the town just before 10.00am but was delighted to learn that my room was already available. Car parking is very limited at just 3 spaces but I was lucky enough to use one of these. My room was clean and tidy with 2 single beds and a decent en suite. Tea and coffee making facilities were good. There were a few golfers staying over and the staff kindly kept the bar open to keep up all well watered. Breakfast was excellent with the food and the plate being piping hot. Although check out was meant to be 10.00 the quad were fairly relaxed over this. I expect to be back at this hotel next time I am in town.

Excellent, friendly establishment. Food (breakfast and dinner) plentiful, fresh and tasty. Room 21 was very comfortable but it was the furthest from the road and others could be affected by traffic noise from the adjacent high street. But overall a five star review. We will certainly be back!

A small but friendly hotel that gets the basics right. Clean, comfortable, warm bedroom, good shower and good service. Car parking is a bit limited but we coped OK. Food in the evening is good and well priced. Breakfast was OK - the cooked part could have been hotter but the service was good. We stayed for three nights and we're happy to recommend the hotel to other visitors.

Our evening at the hotel was very enjoyable. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable; from the moving of the car so we could back our car up to our room, the delicious dinner and attentive service we received, and finally the extra effort after we had gone to search for a lost item. Thank you for all you did for us.

I stayed at the hotel recently with my wife and came back two weeks later. It's a typical coaching Inn with old world charm, friendly helpfull staff, and a bar which seems to be the centre of social activity in the village. The restaurant is pleasant with a good menu of local fare and an excellent breakfast. I stayed a few years ago and the bathrooms seem to have been ugraded recently and the rooms clean and pleasantly decorated. The location is ideal for the beach, castle, train station and for further exploration into Fife and Edinburgh. The bed was a little hard and parking can be a bit tight in the once stable yard, but plenty of space in the street outside.

It si also a short walking distance to the Aberdour Golf course from the hotel. Room seam clean and tidy and quiet.
